Because I don’t have the glittering rugby CV of some of my colleagues, I like to think I had to work that little bit harder to get somewhere as a broadcaster. This might not actually be true, but I’m sticking with it as a glory story…

You may have guessed that I like talking, so to be welcomed into people’s sitting rooms via their television sets, and to be tasked with entertaining them and demystifying various facets of the game is a privilege. It’s also wicked fun and rarely ever feels like work.

My approach has always been that if I’m enjoying the game as a co-commentator or pundit, then the people at home are more likely to enjoy it, too. I’ve never actually scrutinised this theory, but I’m confident I’m right…
